Few days we end up exhausted on a bike trip as we did yesterday (6-20-2010) when Beto and I took on a 200-mile circuit to Pedernales Falls State Park a dozen or so miles east from Johnson City, TX.

The next morning, I woke Beto up at 7:30. We had never slept in this late on a ride day, but we were both tired and sunburn from the amusement park the day before. We geared up and went to our favorite hole in the wall, Evita’s, a staple of ours since the year 2000.

Few places in Texas, or any part of the world for that matter, equate to Luckencbach’s charm and poise. A town that is not really a town, with a security guard that doesn’t really leave you feeling like he can save you from a meowing cat, and a sheriff that is too drunk to even lock up drunks in this town of a population of 3. But this hidden treasure really knows how to put up a show for bikers from all over the country. Luchenback is located in the Texas Hill Country, well hidden from the rest of the universe. This is how Beto and I found it:

The alarm went off at 5:00AM, but I was already awake waiting for it to announce the beginning of a new day. Lazily, my hand reached for my phone to switch it off. Robert would be calling in about an hour to make sure I was awake so we could go on yet another Hill Country Saturday ride on our motorcycles.
